Vase with handles |
Description |
4 x 5' ; glazed pottery with colored decorations; This container, with two small handles near the top, is thought to have been made in Fez, one of several pottery communities of Morocco. Fez ceramics are predeminantly blue, brown, yellow, or green on white backgrounds. Though many modern Moroccan crafts are decorative and intended for the tourist trade, they have their roots in the day-to-day uses of the products. Because representation of living beings are not allowed in Islamic culture, abstract, geometrical, and traditional motifs are fundamental to the design. |
