' ;
pottery
;
Iranian
ceramics
in its
pre-Islamic
phases
, are
characterized
by
elegant
rounded
shapes
,
often
with
narrow
mouths
and
long
spouts
. The
remarkable
number
of
vessels
with
extremely
long
spouts
suggest
that the
ceremonial
pouring
of
liquids
was a
major
concern
of
ancient
Iranian
culture
. This
vessel
would have been
filled
through
the
mouth
in the
bottom
.
When
turned
upright
, the
liquid
would
remain
inside
without
a
plug
in the
base
. This
vessel
would
resemble
one
used
for a
non-ceremonial
purpose
,
since
it
was not
decorated
in any
way
. This
vessel
was
made
as a
demontration
model
for a
teachers
workshop
during
the
exhibition
