statue

pre-Hispanic
woman
was
hand

.
Even
though
this
statue
is
very
stylized
,
it
is
evident
that she
is
wearing
a
shoulder
mantle
(Lliclla)
over
a
tunic-like
dress
(urku)
. The
lliclla
is
a
rectangular
piece
of
cloth
that
women
put
over
their
shoulders
and
held
in
place
by a
tupu
(pin)
. The
standard
size
was
40
x
45
' and was
generally
decorated
with a
three-part
design
based
on
contracting
panels
that
alternated
bands
of
decoration
and
bands
of
solid
colors
. This
figure
is
carrying
her
load
within
a
cloth
that
is
tied
around
her
shoulders
. She
may
also be
wearing
a
chumpi
or
belt
.
