Evil Eye Pendant (Turkish Talisman or Nazar Boncugu) |
Description |
3.5" round glass disc. The Turkish people believe that the "Evil Eye Bead" (Nazar Boncugu) guards them from the evil looks of others. The stone is hand crafted by highly skilled glass workers who use primitive means to carry on a 3000-year-old craft. The mixture of molten glass, iron, copper, water and salt is believed to provide a shield from the forces of evil. The Nazar Boncugu is blue in color, and it is believed that it is actually the blue color of the stone that holds the real shielding power and absorbs negative energy. When the evil eye bead is attached to anything, it is supposed to attract envy and greed, therefore protecting the object (for example, home, office or person). Many Mediterranean nations believe strongly in the protective powers of the color blue. That is why front doors of houses in these Mediterranean countries are painted blue to ward off evil spirits. The symbol of the eye is regarded as a potent amulet for protection against evil forces in almost every culture of the world, including Jewish, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist and Christian faiths. |
