Evil Eye Headband (Nazar Boncugu)
Title |
Evil Eye Headband (Nazar Boncugu) |
Description |
22 blue beads on wire, 15" in length, bent to fit a person's head. Nazar Boncugu is the blue bead, believed since ancient times by people of Turkey to ward off evil. It is used as a protection from the negative energy presumed to spread from the eyes of certain people to that which is deemed particularly vulnerable and precious, including: children, domestic animals and, during an earlier period, household goods. The beads are hung visibly on the presumed object of the evil eye. This may be the head or shoulder of a child, the forehead of a calf, the doorpost of a house or the tip of a stick dug in a flower pot. It is believed that the bead draws the energy to itself, thus diffusing its power and rendering it ineffective. |
