Title	Functional objects
Description	These diverse objects from several African countries are examples of materials used in traditional African everyday life. The Baule heddle pulley is one example of how Africans endow utilitarian objects with aesthetic qualities. Such heddle pulleys are good examples of the way in which utilitarian objects may be attractively designed and even made to carry symbolic meanings, as are combs, snuff containers and head-rests which are carved in an aesthetically balanced and pleasing fashion. Jewelry may be worn purely for decoration or it too can carry great symbolism It may even be used for religious purposes rather then ornamentation, as in the case of the Senufo python bracelet.
